    red flag SSL issue

    Hi everyone,

Well i just purchased an SSL certificate from Go Daddy. I have it all installed and have also followed the tutorial for enabling it in the tutorials section. However i seem to be getting a red exclamation mark on my padlock down the bottom right hand corner of my screen when visiting my own website. I found somewhere that i have to change all my links to begin with https:// and not http:// so i have continued on and done this with all my pages that link to any pages within my zencart store, but i cant seem to work out how to get my links in my actual zencart store to link up as https:// instead of the usual http:// i think this may be the problem if anyone could help shed some light on this that would be greatly appreciated i have tried searching the forums but couldn't see anything, i have been here awhile trying to fix it so i could also be going blind from staring at this screen so long haha, so my apologies.

    Thanks in advance

Actually you're going in the wrong direction and causing problems for yourself.

You don't need to have all links to your site as "https", and Zen Cart will work out for itself which pages should be SSL and which not.

The problem is that some of your content on https pages (which is now more than you need) comes from ordinary http sources, and that's what causes the warning.

An example (and possibly the only one) is your paypal logo. Currently you have it coded to come from http://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/icon/v...ation_seal.gif.

Happily you can code that one to come from https://www.paypal.com/en_US/i/icon/verification_seal.gif.

But do stop coding all links to your site and internal links as https as that will only slow your site down and risk more of these problems for no benefit.

wow thanks for that! ill try the paypal logo thing shortly and let you know how i go. I had my host install my SSL for me and after they had done it , i asked about the red exclamation mark, and they told me to change all of my links to HTTPS, should i change them back or will i get away with it ? it took me forever! but either way ill keep you posted!

Thank you for your fast reply!

Sounds like you had a crossed wire with your host. It's only normally the things that you point to outside of your site that you need to make sure are coming from https servers, and then oly when you're on an https page in your site (which is why increasing the number of those makes the problem worse).

From what I can see the paypal logo is the main cause of the problem. Overtime I would recommend putting your internal links back to http, and if you continue having problems that would be a good place to start, as it may be causing problems where there don't need to be any.
