Default Two sites, one MySQL database?

    Hi all,

Just a quick question. My hosting only allows me one MySQL database but I need to create a site for a friend and wanted to upload it to my hosting for her to try it out before she buys hosting.

So, I wondered if I can somehow link her site to my MySQL database for my products etc. to be included or is some of it title/site specific?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi,

During the Zen Cart installation process you can specify a database prefix (usually 'zen_') which is added to the front of all the table names.

When installing the second site just choose a different database prefix (e.g. test_ ). The second site's tables will then not interfere with the first site.

If you later want to remove the second site, just delete all the tables starting with its prefix (e.g. test_).

    Regards,
    Christian.

    Thanks Christian.

When the time comes to move the site to her host, will I be able to just export tables with said prefix ?

Depends what tools you have available or your webhost provides. Most hosting accounts with PHP and MySQL include phpMyAdmin which allows you to select which tables to export. But this is really a question for your webhost.
