This may not even be possible, but I thought I'd ask.
I'm about to go live, and my room mate, who teaches womens and gender studies at the local University was looking around the cart to see if she spotted anything amiss. She thinks that the cart should not require you to select Mr. or Ms, and that emails should be addressed to "first name/last name" not Mr. Last name.
Thinking about it, she's right. I have a couple of friends who are "genderqueer" meaning they don't consider themselves to be male or female. (Yes, I know, but they have a right to be themselves.) One even prefers to be referred to as "it."
I think this is going to become a problem for more and more people in the future between genderqueer, trans, and intersexed people, and so if it's not possible to fix it now, could personal titles be optional (or could we have more choices?) in the future? I'm not really sure what the "more choices" might be, but maybe a write in, if we have to have titles at all.
Thank you.
