It's hosted on Hostgator shared plan, it's taking over 20+ seconds to load. I wonder what the problem is and if there's something I can do to improve the load speed.

Well - nearly a megabyte worth of images will do that, not to mention flash and scrollers and who knows what other "special effects" ...
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.

Thanks Kim for your reply, however the delay seems to happen before the images and js files are being requested. Please take a look at the below screenshot, it took 17.6 seconds to load the initial page before loading the images, js, css files etc.

Thanks for your help...I really appreciate it.

Default Re: Super slow speed on Load of first click - Please check

our website http://www.atc-distribution.com takes forever to load. Can someone please take a look and suggest things I can do to speed things up.

    I've tried the following:
    1. optimize the database tables
    2. remove sideboxes
    3. rename images folder to eliminate image load time
    4. tweak with Gzip setting, and product count settings.

It is still very slow and I took a screenshot with HTTPWATCH as follows:

    Any help is much appreciated.

Can you switch on 'Display The Page Parse Time' in Admin -> Configuration -> Logging. It might help diagnose where the problem is.

    Regards,
    Christian.

here's two pages of the log file:

I have tried to rename MYTEMPLATE/Common folder to Common_ and the page loads quickly, I then further diagnosed that the TPL_BOX_Default_LEFT when renamed also loads quickly. But it comes up with Category_CSS not found error on the main page. Could it be that I have too many categories causing it to take that long to generate?

Go to this link and start to read up about page speed
    http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/
Your site is very busy with lots of images and movement which all requires a browser to load before it appears on the screen. Look at it all and ask yourself is this really necessary to make a sale or nice because you like it?
The reason you have an online shop is to sell things, customers need to be moved into a buying mood and taken on the journey easily and quickly. It is a bit like the shops you see with Google Adsense adverts on the front page. You have to ask the question what do you want product sales or pennies for each advert click.

Shared hosting is not a good call with what you have on tap it needs a bit more grunt

Just my two cents worth anyway ( Thanks M&M)

Its slow for me because it seems Im just waiting for a response from your server. Even when the page has loaded and i click on a product, the little net indicator in my taskbar flashes once, and then does nothing for a long while, then lights up and loads the page. I would say its a hosting issue.

    Hello, Mr atcdist
yesterday i see your post! but today i am so amazing with the top speed of your site!
My site almost the same problem with you! all done(set gzip on, optimez db, qurey cache, and much more...) but the initial load time is so slow, about 4-5 seconds delay or no responding from host! how you improve it? Are you changing something?
