Since my customer was having so much (and long standing) problems with ipn transactions, I turned on paypal express. However, problems immediately arose. One error message says (7) could not connect to host. (I assume that means paypal?) But then there's a curl error too: [CURL_ERRORS] => (7) couldn't connect to host. That sounds like curl isn't working. But another error also said [CURL_ERRORS] => (28) connect() timed out!
This site has been moved to a new server and we have experienced a variety of problems but curl is working and the communications test was successful using curltester.php. I had the support folks check out curl and they said there was another site on the hosting successfully using curl.
The customer doesn't want to emphasize paypal as an option so we removed the paypal express button in the shopping cart to enforce going thru the entire checkout procedure. I don't see how that could affect anything but I figured I needed to explain that.
I think it very interesting that he has had regular problems with ipn and stuck orders and now this.
Then I guess the questions also becomes, was paypal having trouble over the weekend? Can a server have intermittent problems with curl?
