Default Zen Cart suitable for tour booking office?

Hi everybody, a customer asked me to set up a web shop for his tour booking office. There are several special requirements for this.

    1. Tours are like articles but with a booking date. You always book a tour for a certain date and/or duration.

    2. If a tour is booked in the future it might have another price. Tour operators usually change their prices every year.

    3. Customers don't want to use a shopping cart when they book a tour. They want to go straight to check-out.

Is it possible to meet this requirements with zen cart? If not, do you now of other solutions that I could use?

    Thank you for your time.

This gets asked every now and then, but I can't see where anyone has come up with a solution that isn't pretty kludgy. Things like concert tickets are a lttle easier since they tend to be one or two performances. Each performance can be either a separate product or an attribute for the overall 'product'. Ongoing events like you're talking about are trickier, since there are many more dates available and, as you mentioned, the price may change.

All in all, Zencart isn't an ideal program for something like this. I suspect Googleing tour booking software would reveal something more suitable, but I've never built a site like that, so I can't recommend anything.

I'm not sure I'd necessarily agree with #3. Seems more likely that tour buyers would be like most other online shoppers - most don't mind the shopping cart aspect, some do.

Thanks for your reply. I had a look at some tour booking software before. There are some but they don't strike me as solid and well supported as zen cart.

Concerning #3, you've got a point there, my customer just doesn't want to use a shopping cart.

    Hello Ozpatrick,

This is the result of a 3-day googling marathon looking for online tour booking systems (most of them are Saas). Maybe it's too late for your client but I hope it could help you in the future.
