Sounds like your images directory does not have the correct permissions... Should be writable at the lowest level possible.
Start at like 775 and move to 777 if needed and permitted.

Your hosting company should be able to provide you with step by step instructions for changing your /public_html/images/ folder to be "writable".
Since such instructions are unique to each hosting company's server configuration, they're the best ones to ask for this kind of thing..
