Will this TM template work on 1.3.9d?

Hi, I just did a fresh install of Zen. I want to buy this template, but it says it is for 1.3.8.

Are there any differences in the current 1.3.9d that I have installed that will make this template incompatible, or can I go ahead and get it?

No one here who isn't using that template can answer your question. Most here will recommend that you don't use Template Monster templates with any Zencart version.

Ah ok thanks Steve. I was just wondering if there have been any changes to the template system between the two versions that might affect a template that is 1 version out of date that's all. Can I ask why these templates are bad? And can you recommend somehwere better I should look? It would just be so much easier for me to buy a template and tweak it a bit than start trying to design one from scratch, and I really like that one.

If you search the forums for 'template monster' you'll find some opinions.

Tm templates look good (at least in the demo) but don't always work all that well, especially when they are written for a different Zencart version.

The irony is that 'tweaking' TM templates is usually almost impossible due to the way they mess with core functions and re-write the ids, classes and stylesheet.

If you're determined, though, TM itself might be the best place to ask about compatibility.

Almost all graphics-heavy Zencart templates you'll find on the Web are TM products, despite who wants to sell them to you.

I'm not really fussed about it being a TM template in particular, but I guess if I could buy a template that 'follows the rules' so to speak, that would be great.

Are there any good alternatives out there apart from the free ones here?

I have yet to see any template store that offers "clean" coded templates...that work flawlessly with Zen Cart outside of the templates that look like Zen Cart templates.

You are really better off creating your own look and feel, that way it can be done properly and you won't lose any of the functions of Zen and can more easily upgrade when you need to! :-)
