    which on your system appears to be misinterpreted as ISO-8859-1 text instead of UTF-8.
    ISO-8859-1 is the intentional colation not UTF-8

    So, the code is right, but the Host has a setting that is incorrect?
    (To your knowledge, does this cause the issue with the missing category that I am having?)
    I have been going thru the forums looking for similar issues, but have not found anything that matches what I am getting. I also see that there was another one that was acting the same way. I deleted that one, s it had no items in it, and have not added it back as yet.
    I have to run out for a personal matter, and then the remainder of the day is working on this and getting it fixed.
    Thanks for the help so far.

    Only know what the code defines not what your host is doing
    From english.php
    Code:
    // look in your $PATH_LOCALE/locale directory for available locales..
    // on RedHat try 'en_US'
    // on FreeBSD try 'en_US.ISO_8859-1'
    // on Windows try 'en', or 'English'
      @setlocale(LC_TIME, 'en_US.ISO_8859-1');
    with phpmyadmin you should see the default collation is latin1_swedish_ci

    IOt can be converted to UTF-8 but I have never seen the need

    I was only responding to your query
    I did a Google search for the items and I am finding that it has something to do with the encoding:

    Well, is a Byte Order Mark (BOM) of the UTF-8 unicode standard, which on your system appears to be misinterpreted as ISO-8859-1 text instead of UTF-8.

    Do you think I ma on the right path?

    When you select Essential Oils you get a blank page

    I am seeing this on that page
    Code:

    In the admin, save a copy of your category or product description locally,

    Then delete it, and save - - see if you can load the page without a description

    What/how are you entering these descriptions?
