Stop page jumping to top on refresh

HI people!

Tell you the truth I dont mean to moan but this forum has been more of a comfort thing than actual help. Im not talking about all the wonderful threads Im talking about the fact that most of my threads never get answered... Its kinda no one seeding situation. Still I love Zen Cart and everything its about, no doubt! Rant over...

I got a real simple need, I didnt know where to fit it, its closest to layout issue I guess.

Everytime I click any link to another page or even on the same page anything that causes the page to refresh would automatically jump you to the top of the page.
This is an UNBELIEVABLE pain to smooth browsing, every time a customer clicks a category on side box or a product he/she are jumped straight up to the top header then they have to scroll down to their intended destination. Again they would click anything and the whole bother repeats itself.

There are a few reason why folks don't answer posts

• They don't know the answer to your question, and as such won't post at all..
• They may not have time to analyze your problem and post a solution -- some issues posted here really do require some level of detailed analysis just to provide an answer.. If your question was one of those kinds of questions, sometimes folks may not have time to analyze your particular issue to help you with the solution.. It happens..
• and last but not least.. Some folks just don't feel like answering ANY questions.. This is true on almost all open source forums..

That said, I have to say that unlike other open source forums (like say VIRTUEMART -- Uggghhh), this forum has been a WEALTH of information, and full of some of the most helpful folks.. I've had questions go unanswered here before, and I just move on and find my answer another way.. Other questions get answered, and I learn some things along the way or someone shares something with me.. This is still one of the SINGLE best open source forums and the single best resource for all your Zen Cart needs..

You are not going to like my response, but I have to be honest since I redesigned a site that had a similar problem as yours currently does..

Your design -- specifically your banners -- are too big. Not saying you should ditch them in their entirety, but the placement/usage should be re-considered to improve your user experience..

Suggestions:
Move the larger slideshow banner to the main content area above the main centerboxes (looks like the only one active in your store is the "New Products" centerbox). This will display the larger slideshow banner on the main store page.

If you feel that this main banner MUST appear on EVERY page, consider reducing the size (specifically the height) and place the banner code within one of the Zen Cart built in banners. This will display the banner on EVERY page.

If the smaller wholesale banner MUST appear on every page consider using the Blank Sidebox module or the Admin Editable Sidebox modules and move that code there.

All of this maintains the essence of your design while improving the user experience on your site.

So any nobal Zen elders here to answer the pee wee Zenners???

Since I was summoned here to this thread gotta clarify my true billing.. Not noble.. I'm certainly nobody's elder.. (I am a YOUNG lady thank you very much!! ) I learn new things EVERYDAY here.. In summary.. I'm just humble user of Zen Cart..

Still if anyone reads this thread and knows a way in code to make the page stay in the same vertical scrolling position post refresh I'd love to know how to do that

Your're welcome.. This looks MUCH better, and should improve your user experience..

Now that you've implemented the suggested changes, not sure why you think this is such an important "need". The behavior you are asking for seems counter intuitive to normal visitor behavior.. If I navigate to say the toerings category I want to be taken to the top of the page so I can see the content at the BEGINNING of my selected category.. Why do you feel that you need it to behave differently???

Sorry.. Wish I could help.. Not familiar enough with this module to offer anything meaningful..

It's not rude.. BUT what will be perceived rude by some is questions asked with an expectation that they MUST be answered.. Hope this makes sense..

This is an open source community so your expectations here have to be set differently than they would be with commercial software.. Basically it's all volunteers here, and so there is no "obligation" by any community member to contribute.. So you have to be willing to accept that not everything you ask will be answered.. I have found answers to some of my unanswered questions on my own by doing a little digging through this forum and even by using Google.. (which BTW is another reason some questions don't get answered -- AKA they've been asked and answered already MANY times) But by and large I have gotten LOTS of helpful responses to many of my questions.. I find that very little goes unanswered.. HTH..

By the way I suggest a thread seach on your wishlist questions.. You may find they've already been asked and answered already in the support thread.. In general I make it a habit to read the ENTIRE support thread for ANY module before I install it so I have a FULL sense of the module's weaknesses, frequently reported issues, and solutions to those frequently reported issues.. Just wanted to pass that advice on..
