Order status update

Hi,

I tried to delete one of my order status but it did not worked and the following message appeared : " Error: This order status is currently used in the order status history."
How to delete the "history" of this order status so I can delete the order status itself ?

Do you really need to delete the existing Order Status that is used in your Orders ... or do you just need to add a new one or change the existing information?

Does it hurt anything to leave the existing Order Status alone, as it is being used in your existing Orders?

I just want to avoid having a 3 kilometer list of order status...the point is that I will change quit often some of my order status name, ...
explanation : we are selling compilations on CD & DVD, and products connected to specific events which means for a few month after the event, I would like to have one order status connected to this specific event so I can sort my orders in such a way that in one click I know how many compilation were sold...but then when the sales decrease for this specific product, another event happen and so I need to create another order status, etc, etc... after a while my list of order status is really too long ! so I would like to delete the one that are of no use anymore when there is no more sale for the product .... hope that all this is clear, sorry for my broken English.

Why not use a Sales Report to track your sales details, instead of forcing the Order Status functionality to do something it's not intended to do?

Thanks Dr Byte! I did not thought about it, right after reading your answer I went on the admin of my store in admin>reports>products purchased, and I saw that it is possible from there to have a follow up of a product by taping it"s name or model in the search field ... however, it do not give a general total of the sales but a detailed list of who (and when) did buy this product.
