Quick Udates Install Help

Hello
Really want to install quick updates mod.
ive done my back up (i hope)

But ive fallen at the first hurdle of the install instruction below....

1. Copy/FTP the files and directories in the zencart_root folder to the root of your Zen Cart installation, making sure to preserve the file structure.

Could someone give more details on above?
There are so many directories!
Am i supposed to overwrite my zen cart files/folder with the quick updates ones?
im so worried that my site will go wonky and i wont have the skills to reset it.

First, this is why I have (and I think you should too) at least one Zencart test site. You can place it in a subdirectory of your main site and create its own database. You can use that site to test mods, etc. without chancing messing up your live site. I have a separate domain I use just for testing.

Anyway, you would drag and drop the 'admin' folder from the mod (changing the name of the folder first if you've changed the name of your 'admin' folder on your site) to the root (top directory) of your site. All the folders and files will fall where they're supposed to. Since the admin section doesn't use overrides, you'll have to tell the FTP program to overwrite files when asked.

Then copy and paste the contents of quick_update.sql into Admin - Tools - Install SQL Patches and click Send.

so i drag the admin folder form the mod over to my zen root folder.

If the files in the existing folder have the same name as the files in the folder you are copying they will be replaced.

i hit ok -So the original files are overwritten?

Then i FTP the new changed files

is this correct?

I'm not sure what you mean by that. The first action (dragging and dropping the admin folder) would be done in youir FTP program.

Well, im just doing things locally.
Then i FTP the new files in my zen root.

one tiny thing with quick updates....

My site has Categories & within those - sub Categories.
In quick updates, I can list & edit the sub categories ok.

But when i try to display the main categories i get no list shown.
There is the little side box with Edit master/edit linked cat, neither option gives me a list displayed.

How do i edit a category and the all the products in the sub categories within it?
