Add "New Products" below "Product Listing"?

I know what the usual answer would be.. Configuration > Index Listing > Show New Products - below Product Listing

In my case, this doesn't work as I have the product listing inside a scroll bar which only takes up 2/3 of the page.
If I add the box the normal way, the New Products section appears inside the scrolling area, which is not what I want.

I need the New Products to appear in that white space at the bottom.

I've spent >3 hours trying to suss this out and could really use a hand!

Would you be able to turn on the new products so that they appear please? (even though in the wrong place)
