Default Question about 'featured' and 'specials' database tables

The 'featured' and 'specials' database tables seem to be intended to represent whether or not a product is featured/on special. Each of these tables has a products_id field, referencing the product, but each has its own primary key as well. This seems to imply that a given product record can have more than one corresponding 'featured' record, and more than one 'specials' record. This seems counter-intuitive to me, unless the intent was to maintain an audit trail of when a product has been featured or has been on sale. Is that the real intent? I looked in the Zen Cart database wiki, but that's not much help in this regard.

    To rephrase my questions:
    • Is it reasonable to expect that a given product record can have more than one corresponding record in the featured table?
    • And in the specials table?
    • If so, how does Zen Cart interpret these multiple records?

    Thanks in advance.

At this time, 1 record per Product is used for each ...

Later, in the future, this will be expanded to multiple records per Product to allow them to be turned on and off as needed based on the date constraint ...

Not a problem ... once the rewrites are done for this ... the specials and featured will be expanded ...
