Category/Sub Category Sidebar

Hello All,
For a site I am currently working on - we are after the following - A Top Navigation Bar (Custom HTML Header) that will link to a list of Categories (6) and the Sidebar to represent these Categories, once these have been selected the Sidebar will only represent the Sub Categories within this Category selected.

Any ideas on how to do this, if it is a standard Mod, or some custom PHP work.

Are these six categories the whole set, or will there be other categories you do not want showing in the top bar?
You can use the standard categories-tabs for the top nav, with custom styling, and it would be easy enough to insert a test to filter out other categories if necessary.

For the sidebox, Categories Dressing can handle the subcat display with available settings.

Top Nav will show the only Top Level Categories so that wont be a problem - however what do you mean by "Categories Dressing can handle the subcat display with available settings"

Install it from Free Addons; the readme describes how to use it for many different situations. I have helped people in its support thread with exactly your setup.
