.gif view differently in Firefox and IE

Navbars using the .gif tile for 3-D effect do not appear in Firefox. Solid bar of color appears.

Will there be other problems using .gif images in Firefox?

Would rather know sooner than later.

I see the tile in FireFox

gif's are one standard for these but can be jpg's or png's
