Trying to set up taxes for seperate NY counties.

Hello,
I'm running the version 1.3.9h... I'm testing out locally.
No addons etc...

I'm in NY and I need to set up sales taxes for all the counties here. I have searched and I found what seems to be a great solution but I can't get it to work correctly.

Heres what I found from a poster in this site:

we created a zone for each county/city in NYS (e.g. New York (Albany County).
After that we created tax zones for for each of the tax rates.
Then we created the zone definitions for each tax zone.
Works very well, especially now that we have the dropdown box for states.
If you use this method, don't forget to remove New York as a state. We then setup the tax to be calculated against the shipping address. [/SCR]

I have only set up Two Zones for testing purposes

I create the two zones Albany and NYC
Then I create my 2 zone definitions
After that I create my tax classes for each zone
And finally my tax rates for each zone.
I'm not sure what should the priority level be for either one.

I have already set up my store location and my basis product & shipping tax as: shipping.

If I go into Catalog-->Categories/products-->
In my test product there's a Tax Class option, but I have two options to choose from based on the tax classes I have set up.
Albany and NYC.
I cant just put one in there... or I will get the wrong tax added to an order....

What other steps am I missing.

In simplest terms this is the problem Im having:

I'm having a lot of problems with doing these suggested steps:

1. Create a zone for each of the counties/cities and keep the code as the state (NY)
2. create tax zones for each tax rate (Is thisa zone definition? Is the zone named for the NY county or for the sales tax rate ie 8%? Are there different tax zone definitions for each county or for each rate?)
3. create a zone definitions for each tax zone (Then what did we just do in step 2?)
4. Remove your state as a state by itself and replace with your state and your county.

I created a zone for each county, then I created a zone definition for each county (maybe this was wrong), and put in a tax rate for each. Now, when I display the sales tax, I see a whopping tax six times the product cost. Could someone please explain exactly what you do after the first step where all the counties are defined as zones?

Ok I believe I have found a solution here:

This mod seems to work well. It has allowed me to create separate Tax Rates for all the counties in NY state.

Now when a customer logs in and selects the their State and county ( set up in zones ) the correct sales tax is applied to that specific zone.

Great work by LadyHLG... made my life easier.

Before downloading this Mod I suggest reading the last parts of the thread because there are some updates that you may need to install... Or better yet ask LadyHLG.
