... and if you upload from a freshly unzipped copy of 1,3,9h then you won't overwrite your configure.php file, because this file is named dist_configure.php to start with...

yeah... just overwrite all admin folders/files with everything in 1.3.9h admin folder.

Thanks guys, I did it, onme by one I went down the list of files which I replaced on the upgrade looking for one which may be affacted. Looks like int he list of files to replace, I missed the options_values_manager. I uploaded this from the v.h copy and its working, Ive now got my colours! Thanks everyone for your help. Now i need to make it a required choice before they can add to cart! :)

OK, so you have option NAME = "Colours"

Create your FIRST option VALUE for that option name as:

Please choose a colour

... and give it an ORDER VALUE of 1
... and make it DISPLAY ONLY (In the list of "legend icons" it's the first one, so just make sure that icon is bright yellow = ie: switched on).
... and then make it the DEFAULT value (ie: it displays FIRST in the dropdown list - also one of the legend icon selectors)

Then, create other option VALUES

red (sort order 10)
yellow (sort order 20)
blue (sort order 30)

(I leave "gaps" in the sort order values so I can add other colours later if I need to, and when such additional colours need a certain position in relation to other colours in the dropdown).
