    1. You install the latest version of Zen Cart, with its up to date db.
    2. You take a backup of your old db.
    3. You 'drop' the tables in the new db and import the old db.
    4. You use the 1.3.9h zc_install folder and run the install, selecting the "Upgrade only database" option.

You don't do this on a live site - you do it on a test site.

You use the 'images' folder from your old site (making sure there are no PHP files inside it) and re-add your template to the templates folder.

You should then have a working 1.3.9h with all your product and customer data and your template.

what i did was overwrite the files on existing

If I do it your way - I then have to move all the new files back to the old directory?

this is a lot of extra work and time to do the moving

Is that really the best way to do it?

Yes, it is. If you have any add-ons applied to your shop then they may not be compatible with 1.3.9h, and so you have to reapply those making sure that the versions you install are up to date and say that they are compatible with 1.3.9+. Otherwise they will break your site.

If you are doing the upgrade in response to a hack then just overwriting existing files won't remove any new files placed there by a hacker.

It doesn't take that long to do, and it's best to put your live site "Down For Maintenance" while you work on the new test site - otherwise the databases will get out of sync and you'd have to redo that part all over again.

thanks for your help - i'm new to zencart.
so when i'm up to the database part -can I just import all tables?
or I have to one by one drop and recreate?

    I want to install http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=15

is this automatic with the lastest version or do I have to install the add-on from somewhere.

If you look at what I said earlier:

    3. You 'drop' the tables in the new db and import the old db.

No, you can't. If you don't want to follow my advice then that's fine.

Here's something we published for our customers who wanted to upgrade. Most of it would apply to you.

ok so I only replace the tables that are in the old? right? and I can replace them completely (as in drop and create) or do I just move the data
