How to Iinstall the ZenCart1.3.9 on Local Xampp server?

I am a newbie to Zen Cart. Can anyone here can tell me step-by-step on how to install the Zen Cart 1.3.9 on my computer? I have installed XAMPP server as localhost on my computer for testing using the Zen Cart before buying a hosting company to host my site. Or I will have to buy a package from a hosting computer before I can install this Zen Cart template? Please help!!! Thanks.

Besides using XAMPP, you can also use WAMP. Instructions for setting up Zen Cart on WAMP can be found here.

If you are not testing payment or shipping modules that require communication with third party sites (e.g. PayPal), then you can play with Zen Cart's features on your local computer instead of a server.

XAMPP is fine for an offline (Intranet) web server.

Create a folder inside the htdocs folder and add your Zen Cart folders and files into that folder. Go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin and create a new database for use with your local Zen Cart install

Then go to http://localhost/folder-name/zc_install and do the Zen Cart install as you would with an online (Internet) web server.

I've seen your reply in a couple places and I'm still lost. Keep in mind that I'm not the most computer savy person you'll ever meet.

I downloaded and installed XAMPP and then went to http://localhost/phpmyadmin
Do I need to create a new database with a specific name or just any name that comes to mind?

After creating a new Database I'm asked to create a table and the number of fields. I'm totally lost at this point. I left it blank and moved on to the next step you mention.

Sense I created a folder in XAMPP/HTDOCS I entered the following into my browser:

This is what I end up with.

I tried a few variations. Here's what I entered and the results shown as a quote.

Well, you don't want to have a folder called "Zencart/zen-cart-v1.3.9h-full-fileset-10262010"

So keep it simple, just create a folder inside the htdocs folder and call it 'zencart' (no capital letters), and then copy/paste the CONTENTS of the "zen-cart-v1.3.9h-full-fileset-10262010" folder into the new 'zencart' folder, but not the "zen-cart-v1.3.9h-full-fileset-10262010" folder itself.

Then you can go to http://localhost/zencart/zc_install and start the installation procedure.

After creating a new Database I'm asked to create a table and the number of fields.

All you need do is to create the empty database - the database tables and fields will be set up by the Zen Cart install.

Curl is used for payment processing, which you won't need on a local install. But if you want it then there's a XAMPP add-on which is easy to install.
