Help with category menu and product stuff

I am extremely new to ZenCart and am building my first site. I have been searching google and these forums for these answers and have not found anything useful. (Maybe it's a stupid question, I don't know.) Also, I realize these are not the only two problems with my site right now (yes, the text on the zebra buttons is problematic), but go ahead and feel free to grill me on the others.

1st Problem: I am using a template from the ZenCart site called "a pink boutique" although I have modified the colors to match my company. It shows the categories on the left hand side in the menu on the template. However, they are not showing on my actual site. I have made sure the categories are turned on in the admin.

2nd problem: If you go under a product page, it will show model, shipping weight, and units in stock even though I have those options set to "0" in admin.

1 - - Did you during the install of the template go to
admin > tools > layout boxes controller > and reset the sideboxes?

2 - - go to
admin > catalog > Product Types > general > select at far right "edit layout > then
Show Model Number
Show Weight
Show Manufacturer
Show Quantity in Shopping Cart
Show Quantity in Stock

And I did do the step during setup where I reset the layout boxes, but it looks like it reverted back to the original. Probably would have been helpful if I knew why I was resetting them in the first place, haha!
