php upgrade now check out page is blank

We had issues within the admin site showing empty fields for the product name, description, and model number when editing a product. We did the work around mentioned in the below post:

And it works fine but our company is moving towards PCI compliance hence the work around will not work.

Our host 1&1 said we can upgrade to php with a simple htacces edit:

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php .php4

Although the admin product editing is function properly, after adding the htacces file to the main folder. The checkout pages are not working. A customer can start to check out and log in but the site goes blank when the /index.php?main_page=checkout_shipping page attemps to load.
The version of php 5.2.17

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

only necessary if you're using a PHP version lower than PHP 5.2.3

Back out that editing as your php version is higher being at 5.2.17

The current version of php we are using is 4.4.9.

What I should have said in the above post is that the version we are trying to upgrade to is 5.2.17, currently we are on 4.4.9

Also to further clarify we back out, reverted, the edits for the work around. So essentially working with 1.39h files & the htacces edit is not working for.

So we the issue is still unresolved, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If installed on php 4.4.9 you need them and may be more as it is very old and the code is written for 5

If installed on php 5.2.17 you do not need them

Still not sure what the issue was.

I tried using winmerge between my test server and live site, with no luck.

It possibly might have been that I had installed 2 mods on my live site before testing them on the test server and then on top of it was trying to get the php working. This made comparing files between test and the live site more challenging than it needed to be.

What worked was taking the files(php5) from the test server, minus the config files and putting them on the live site.
