Increasing size of zone shipping tables and Zone countries

Ok, i was reading the tutorial, like any good Zenner should, and i came across the following statement

Lastly, there is a limit of 255 characters on each of the Zone Shipping Tables and Zone Countries. This can be changed in the database to suit your needs.

Now i need to change these fields, but i am a touch uncertain how, the phrase "in the database", does this mean

a) use phpadmin or similar tool and increase the size of the table that way
OR
b) There is a configuration setting some where in the database that should be increased?

Any help would be appreciated

Actually, this is no longer true ... that has been changed so that there isn't a limit on the settings any longer ...
