restored a backup and now I am Under Construction.......but not!

Hi My missing web site is here (*but it isn't)
v1.3.9f)
I restored a backup and now I am Under Construction....although I have that set to false.....
The classic template is previewing correctly but if I activate it - it goes to under construction
My custom template previews as
don't have permission to access /includes/templates/mine/images/ on this server. (permissions are set to 755 set them to 777 but made no difference.)
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Deleted index.php but went to page error

includes/languages/english/checkout_process.php was the file I wanted to change one line there define('EMAIL_THANKS_FOR_SHOPPING','Thanks for shopping with us today!');
when I saved it, checkout went to page not found. It seemed easier to restore the backup then try to find the error

I have no idea where to look to resolve my LOST WEBSITE
cpanel works fine
admin works fine

Please help - I was just getting it where I wanted it......should have left well enought alone!! Now I am in all sorts of trouble and want to just open a bottle of wine and go to the beach...

But need to resolve this.......I would appreciate any help....

It seems like you somehow deleted the main /index.php file from the server.

I have lost a couple of images but my issue now is that on check out it goes to
The website cannot display the page etc
I appreciate your time and knowledge........have opened the bottle of wine but don't look like getting to the beach

To clarify - it is a
500 Internal Server Error
which I think means that I messed up....

Thanks - fixed, just had to check where my check out process files where saved......
