They are under 150x150px and and less than 200kb each.
All are .jpg
Did you check the file 'id' and 'file path' in database and make sure it is referenced there?
it contains a file 'id' and contains the file path to the directory of the image for the specific item.

These are mfg. Logo's that are in the /manufacturer file, not product images used and filed elsewhere.

I haven't seen anything that says my mfg. Image file names have to be preceeded with anything at all.
Do you have an absolute link to one of these images
as in yoursite/images/manufacturer/image.jpg
so we can see if the images are actually there, and working

Check the ' .htaccess ' file in the images directory. It may be the way the file type is spelled ' .jpg vs jpeg '
# but now allow just *certain* necessary files:
<FilesMatch ".*\.(jpe?g|JPE?G|gif|GIF|png|PNG|swf|SWF)$" >
add your jpg to the above string or change to jpeg or JPEG

jpe?g|JPE?G
The ? indicates that the preceding character is optional, so it would match jpg, jpeg, JPG or JPEG.
