I have installed a fresh version of 1.3.9 on my server. When installation is successfully finished, i click the take me to admin button and i am directed to the 404 error page not found page.
I am able to access the the public url.
i have tried reinstalling several time and editing config files store and admin.
I am stumped.
I am sure it is an easy, just not sure what needs to be edited.
also i have checked the admin dir. for login.php and index.php and they are present.
any ideas?

It's possible that your hosting company has configured the server to reject access a folder named "admin".
And, since renaming your admin folder is one of the first recommended steps, it might be worth doing that to see if it solves your problem.

after finally being able to get to the admin area. i choose my template and all that i see is the header body is black.

i have no problems with my template on my local server
all images paths are correct.

So, you're saying that things are fine using the Classic template but when you switch your active template setting to your custom template suddenly things are broken?

Quite possible.
Or bad hardcoded paths in the template files, pointing to your local server instead of being generic enough to work on any..

I believe i found the problem doc. i had installed the quick layout boxes controller addon.
When boxes are enabled it cuts the body out of my site but is i leave no sideboxes enabled. i can see the body of the page. should i just try to uninstall this or is there another fix the doc can prescribe

I'm not familiar with the details of how that addon works. If it's not working for you, then maybe it's best to remove it.
