Default Email Error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

    Hi

I am running Zen Cart V1.3.9h on a local PC whose operating system is Windows 7.

    Server Host: www.mysite.loc (127.0.0.1)
    Database Host: mysite.loc (127.0.0.1)

I have set up Mercury/32 and am using Outlook 2010 as my email front end.

I have all the accounts detailed on page 389 of the "e-start your web store" manual set up in Outlook, and can email between them , but not to the outside "real" world.

I can email out of Mercury to any of the accounts set up in in Outlook successfully.

I have my email options for the Zen Cart set up as per table 4.2 on page 74 i.e.

    E-Mail Transport SMTP
SMTP Email Account MAilbox <leave blank>
SMTP Email Account Password <leave blank>
    SMTP Email Mail Host mail.mysite.loc
SMTP Email Mail Server Port 25

i am unable to send emails to any of the accounts previously set up and get the following error message:

Email Error: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Can somone please advise where i am going wrong

    Many Thanks

If this is only a development install, why do you need email?

Why do i want email? just following the manual and would like to replicate the process, flow and feel of the finished site ..... got to page 49 of a 400 page maual and the results are not as expected.

As it is perceived as being required as one progresses through to customization before uploading a site to an external server, i guess it is only natural to ask, and the preface of the book tells us that it" ... goes into detail on how to set up a Zen Cart store on a readers local computer").

forgive the cofuddled question, but just dont want to get to a position where everything else is running smoothly, upload to an external server and boom, no email notifications happening from store to store owner or customer alike.

thanks for your input so far ....

Set the email transport to php for now

SMTP is different as to how your future host has it configured

    Excellent,

    Simple things .....!

All works fine now, thank you for your help.

For the record, the configuration method detailed in the book is smtp for a windows environment, that is why poor lil ol' me was gonig around the bend!
