Thats a good idea. I will do that. That is the way I wanted it from the beginning. Right now the basic domain www.blablah.com contains just a list...photos and manage. What is its purpose as it is and if I move my site there what will happen to them?

Host Gator chat said that if I move my site to a different directory my link will break.

you want it so when someone types in browser " early1900photos.com ' it goes to your site. tell them its broken the way it is now . having to type "early1900photos.com/photos"
    they should understand.
all content moves to new location which is up one directory level on the server to the "public_html' folder which is root.
you have to edit the two config. files to match the new location path that's all.Database is same

// Define the webserver and path parameters

just work your way down the configure.php files

well... tell them exactly what the problem is and then they should understand fully.

you want all contents of the 'photos' folder moved to the 'public_html' folder but not the photos folder itself. it can be deleted afterwards.

I talked to HG chat today. Real nice person tried to move my files for me. Could not do it without the links breaking. So, I'll just tear it down and start again. Nothing to lose but incompetence
