Extras Admin Menu Item - can I remove or add to it?

Hi All,
I've been looking around and searching the forums for extras, admin menu extras etc but cannot find an answer to my question.

I would like to remove the options in the Extras menu item ( i.e Music Genres, etc ) as my client has no real need of them. I'm not really sure what they are for really. Looked through the wiki for Admin Menu Items but it didn't really explain very well the uses of the Extras.

In Zen Cart v1.3.x ...

If you peek in the:
/your_secret_admin/includes/boxes

you will see several files that end in:
_dhtml.php

The Extra menu is:
extras_dhtml.php

you can add on to it by making your own files such as:
/your_secret_admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes/product_music_extras_dhtml.php

you could add:
/your_secret_admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes/fred_extras_dhtml.php

and that would also add on to the Extra menu ...

Or to add:
/your_secret_admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes/backup_mysql_tools_dhtml.php

would add on to the Tools menu ...

You might also look into the module Admin Profiles. It allows you to set up accounts with menus hidden.

I greatly simplified my clients user accounts with this.

hi i didnt get the additional menu items in Extras which was added by me in zen cart version1.5.0. but it is displaying in v1.3.8..

plz help me.

I am running v1.5 and not finding any _dhtml.php files to edit or add to the admin control panel menu? I have installed the Gift Card Module which works great except that the link to administer it is not showing up under tools. I want to be able to manually add this under tools or even somewhere on the Admin control panel navigation part.

Can this be done?

In v1.5.0 and newer, you must manage the menu choices by assigning available options to specific user profiles, using the Admin Access Management menu.

And addons which don't understand the new menu system must be updated to register their pages into the menu before you can assign access permissions to those pages. This is described in various forum posts in the upgrading section.

Can you provide a specific link? I'm trying to solve this exact problem and getting nowhere. I added the files to extra_boxes but they haven't appeared in the menus. I don't get how they have to register themselves.

Is it easy to add an often used internet link to the admin menu?
I can go through the how to of adding the actual menu, but not sure what to do for just adding a link?
