It is a problem if you master_categories_id is incorrect ...

If you do not use Linked Products then you should only have 1 categories_id per Product in the table products_to_categories and that categories_id should be the master_categories_id in the table products ...

Well I gotta admit...ya lost me there....

So let me break it down to a level that I can understand.

I've got a category, we'll call it "A"

"A" contains 6 sub-cat's.

A1
A2
A3
A4
A5
A6


A3 and A4 also have sub cats

A3a
A3b
A3c

A4a
A4b
A4c
The ones in blue are the ones I want to apply FREE SHIPPING to.

So lets say each sub-cat has hundreds of individual parts, it's simply not feasible to manually change them all one at a time.

Does this explain my predicament?

I understand the issue ... what I am trying to determine is if you have the right master_categories_id on your Products ...

If you edit a handful off Products in:
A1
A3a

do they say what their master_categories_id is?

Do you import your Products?

Do you use *any* Linked Products?

When I manually edit the products, the master ID shown is 0.

Yes I import using EasyPopulate.

Okay this is why the SELECT isn't working you do not have master_categories_id set on your Products ...

Because you use Linked Products, there is not an easy way to fix this problem ...

One thing you can do on Categories of Products that should all use the same master_categories_id you could go to the Catalog ... Categories/Products ... and click the C for Copy and click on the Multiple Categories Link Manager button ...

On the bottom of the page you will see:

Reset ALL Products in the selected Category to use the selected Category as the new Master Categories ID ...
Example: Resetting Category 22 would set ALL Products in Category 22 to use Category 22 as the Master Category ID
Reset the Master Categories ID for All Products in Category:

If the categories_id for the Category for Category A3a were 577, you can enter 577 and all of the master_categories_id for the Products in that Category will be set to 577 ...

Now you can run the SELECT statement to fix the Always Free Shipping for that master_categories_id = 577 ...

NOTE: you really should fix all of your Products so that they all have master_categories_id so that things like SaleMaker and such work correctly ...

NOTE: as you import products that they are also missing the products_price_sorter which is the Product Price to be used on displays and searches ...
