wrong attributes are showing...

i've been tackling this problem for 5 hours now and i'm not sure where to start...

i've taken over zen from someone else and i'm having problems entering my attributes.

basically, whenever i input new attributes a different set of attributes are shown on the page.

i'm truly out of ideas now. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

additional info:

this happens on every item on every category.
i've got another option name i called color. that works properly, it's radio based, but every time i add this attribute, the size attribute appears again, even without me adding it and the same drop down options appear.
i've even removed the size option but it still appears. the only time it isn't present is when i delete all attributes.
