PayPal Express Checkout with Payment by Credit/Debit Card

Hi,

I am using PayPal Express Checkout. I have changed the default configuration so that all three processing steps are completed within the store before handing off to Paypal to process the payment. After payment the user is returned to the store.

I am currently using a sandbox, so the differences I am noticing may be due to that.

I have a recollection that originally there was an option to pay by credit/debit card. Now I see that in addition to paying by an existing paypal account there is, on the left side of the screen, the option to create a PayPal account - which is not what I want.

Nor is there a "Don't have a PayPal account? Click here" ." button.

Can anyone set me straight: is there a setting or configuration that allows the user to pay via PayPal using a PayPal account OR by credit/debit card but isn't forced to create a new PayPal account if they don't already have one?

Yes, Paypal Express normally allows payment without creating an account, but we don't have any way of knowing what you changed in the configuration, so it's hard to advise.

I looked at those two articles and cleared the cache in case that was the problem but Paypal defaults to either login or create an account.

The only principal change I have made is to remove Instant Checkout Shortcut button so that steps 1-3 complete before being able to make the payment (by the confirm button at step 3).

I have reinstated temporarily the Instant Checkout Shortcut button but it too appears to offer the same options as the confirm button at step 3. Now I'm wondering if I started off by using Payments Standard before reading the advice to switch over to Instant Checkout and that's when I saw the option to pay by credit card.

Set it up with your live account, not sandbox, and it should offer the option to pay by credit card without a paypal account.
If it doesn't, contact PayPal for the reason why.


As per the articles I pointed you to, you need to enable "account optional" in your PayPal website-payment-preferences within your paypal account.
