Charge a % of total order to cover credit card costs

hello, my client accepts credit card via total web solutions payment module.

What i need to do is add 3% onto the total order to cover the card charges. He's checked with the bank and they are ok with this.

The problem i have is how can i do this? Ive tried adding a 3% into the handling fee of virtually all the shipping modules but no luck.

Ideally i wanted to use the zones module and put the 3% in the handling fee but it just comes up as £3.

any ideas? anyone else had this issue?

It is a cost of doing business for those that decide to accept them and also why many do not accept American Express as their fees are higher

Best check with your TOS agreements ... this is in direct violation of just about everyone that there is ...

But if you notice a clause to use a surcharge... Look below..

Use winMerge to compare the .php file if they overwrite a core. notice this mod was written for 138 and you might be using 139h..

thanks for your help ill take a look at that, im using the latest version so will need to check over it etc. Regards the violation, they are a charity and according to the bank they have no issues at all with them charging (which i thought was a little odd but presumed it was due to charity status)

humm having a bit of trouble here, I have installed the above module but i get a 500 error / blank page when going though the checkout

log says

"[24-May-2011 16:49:41] PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type queryFactoryResult as array in /home/sites/**URL-REMOVED**.org.uk/public_html/includes/modules/order_total/ot_payment.php on line 97"

from what i can tell even if/when i get this working it will only discount other modules where as i need to add 3% onto the order total.

Is their any way to alter the zone rates modules handling fee to be a %? this would allow me to acheive the % charge needed.

I believe there are exclusions.

I know the BMV charges 3% if you use CC to pay for new license. Also other state offices do charge processing fees on top of their services.

For anyone else wanting to charge % on top of the order to cover credit card fees you can do the below. Please note this will add a % onto the order no matter what payment they choose. Since my client only uses credit card and only intends to do so in the future this works fine;

Modules >> Order Total modules >> low order fee >> install Order Fee For Orders Under >>
under Order Fee For Orders Under >> put a crazy high value e.g. 50 million
under Order Fee put your % e.g. 3 (do not put the % sign)

I don't know how long I have been looking for a solution to adding a percentage for handling at the checkout. I use the zones module too but it is set by weight and couldn't seem to get a solution for adding a handling fee which this does. I even installed a clone zones module which worked fine except that at checkout it was giving the customer a choice of paying freight or handling fee and not combining them - naturally people were choosing the lower price!

I do one day want to get the other option working (so I know how), but this solution has certainly removed some of the headaches.

Kobra - my apologies, but I have strong opinion you might be wrong.
According to new rules neither Visa or Master can forbid using following following as it was confirmed by several providers: "Card Processing Fee". It is legal allowed nowdays.
