Idea or Suggestion Tip for those updating, using other languages

If you're using other languages than English, and updating you must ensure you're having updated language files first - or that you use the administration in English.

If not you'll find youself lost even as Superuser, missing Configuration, Admin Access Controll etc.

Those strings/definitions from database do not load if not in the language files.

Note to devs! A better way to handle missing language strings would be to display the English translation, as many other softwares do. Meaning, having English as a fallback. Example Joomla!

Or display the define text maybe so you know what you are missing and what to search for in the English files.

If that is needed for translators, add a debug feature instead (as in Joomla! t.ex.). But most translators know how to find this anyway if they need.

Fall-back is more useful since the files then can be used even if not up to date all the time, witch can be useful since Zen Cart is mostly released with new string without translators getting a chance to update before the release - because the devs trunk are hidden. ;)

You can't do fallback to english with the current language system...

They are constants, which are loaded from static PHP files, so you can't set the language to english first and then overwrite them with the current language (thus no english fallback).

Like I've whined about before... the language system needs to be redone to allow more flexibility and to make translation updates more easy to do (they are extremely painfull at the moment).

I've been working with drupal lately and very much like the way they are doing it... with t() wrapped around english text right in the source which you can translate or even override easily if you so please...
