Default Shipping via Container Ship - Calculate when container full?

    Hi,

I have a client that ships products in containers via ship. They aren't wanting any sort of payment / shipping cost calculation on.

However they want to be able to calculate if a customer has filled a container based on their current order.

Weight is not an issue it is purely size/volume the container can fit.
Is there such a module or even possible to define a container size, then (I assume) define a product size, then calculate when the amount of products has filled the container?

    Thanking you.

PS: This is my first foray in Zen Cart and eCommerce in general (not web design), however I've searched for hours and cannot answer my question directly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Numinix has created a module for "Additional Product Fields" and I do know that these include options for Length, Breadth and Height.

It should then be possible to write a formula that calculates VOLUME for each product, and then these values can be SUMMED as products are added to the cart. When the SUM of volumes reaches a pre-defined threshold, a desired action or alert can be displayed.

This will require some nifty code writing - but should be possible. My colleauge, Fairestcape has compiled a module called Maximum Value Allowed in Cart - based on Andrew Berezin's Minimum Value Allowed in Cart - and the coding here may provide some pointers as to how you do this.

    Thanks schoolboy,

This is exactly what I'm after. I've actually just found Numinix product fields which looks like it caters to what I want, and your suggestion seems possible...

Now if only I could figure out how to install Numinix. I've copied all the files, under Admin -> Catalogue -> Product Types I've told it to show dimensions. But its not working yet.

If my memory serves me correctly, the sql for the additional fields are in a separate folder in this module. Once the CODE is loaded, you need to run appropriate sql to adjust the database to accommodate the additional data.
