it's an upgrade. I don't recall where I started but have upgraded every step since 1.3.8 something..........
I would use something like Beyond Compare from scootersoftware.com to compare the files in the /admin to your admin files and see if you have missed something along the way ...
I have not been able to reproduce the problem so far ...

categories.php
downloads_manager.php
featured.php
products_expected.php
media_manager.php
products_price_manager.php
reviews.php
stats_products_lowstock.php
stats_products_viewed.php
but so far, the differences have only been
* @version $Id: (etc).
If I'm using WinMerge correctly (it's new to me)
Without actually seeing your files and database I am at a loss as to what the problem is on using the calendars ...

oops, sorry, that was hasty, I was using WinMerge incorrectly, and failed to specify comparing subfolders.
I have quite a few differences, might take a little while to enumerate them.......
