I am going to post this here since I think my initial question is in the wrong forum.
I would like to create additional category headings that are not linked and separate a bunch of linked categories. How can I best accomplish that? Thank you

Okay.. I think I figured this out. I installed the 'Categories Dressing' mod and that gives me the options I'm looking for.
