    Default Making attributes required

Does anyone know how to make an attribute required, so that the user must select an option before they can proceed?

    Thanks

    Default Re: Making attributes required

For every option NAME where you require a choice, you need to create an option VALUE that is configured as DISPLAY ONLY.

    As an example:

    You sell SHOES.

    -----------------------------------------------------

You have OPTION NAME 1 = "Shoe Size"

    With OPTION VALUES

    i) Size 3
    ii) Size 4
    iii) Size 5
    iv) Size 6

To FORCE the customer to make their choice of size, you need to ADD ANOTHER OPTION VALUE to OPTION NAME "Shoe Size".

    i) Please choose a size...
    ii) Size 3
    iii) Size 4
    iv) Size 5
    v) Size 6

Now... I have an option called "Please choose a size..."

I associate this with the product in the same way that I associate the other option values for size, but in this case I make it the DEFAULT option and I make it DISPLAY ONLY.

You do this by enabling the little coloured icons in the attribute controller. When they are OFF they have a little "X" in them. If you click them, they change color. The DISPLAY ONLY will become YELLOW and the DEFAULT will become ORANGE. Hover over each little icon with an X in it to see which ones you need to enable. The Display Only is the FIRST one and I think the Default is the THIRD one.

It helps to give your option VALUES a SORT as well (Sort Order).

I make the Display Only value sort order 1, then I know it will appear FIRST, if I then give sort values higher than 1 to the remaining values.

    -----------------------------------------------------

You do the same process for SHOE COLOR

    i) Please choose a color...
    ii) Black
    iii) Brown
    iv) Beige
    v) Tan
