Default Crisis! Back end works, front end does not!

    v1.3.9b

Hello all, I am facing a major crisis with my zen cart website! I was talking to my client about chances I wanted to make, and I demonstrated changing the 'contact us' button on product pages without prices to 'request a quotation' and link the user to n ez-page I made with a form for them to fill. I changed the functions_general.php page to modify the 'contact us' button, and uploaded the new version of this flyer in front of my client, and it killed the site! The entire front end says: "HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request". I changed the file back to normal and reuploaded it, but it didn't fix the problem. The back end works fine, I can log into both the admin section and my cpanel. I tested changing functions_general.php in a site clone I made, so I am surprised to learn I have this problem.

HELP! My store is unusable by customers!

Your site appears to be up and running. What was the problem, and the solution?
