You can manually enter data to square. They will charge 3.5% (plus $.15 per sale) versus the 2.75% for swipes. That is WAY cheaper than what you wind up paying for merchant services. I found that, being VERY diligent about debit versus credit transactions, I wound up paying 4.67% with all fees lumped together. One person paid over 6% because they didn't bother with the debit/credit.

The problem is getting the data from Zen Cart in compliance with PCI et al.

If Conor were still alive, I'm reasonably sure he would have made his manual card mod more secure.

I didn't figure out the percentage I have been paying, but my Wife told me we paid $600.00 last month just in fees and we're just a mom and pop outfit. If anyone figures out a way to make square work on the cart, I'll be his first customer.

    Thanks...

Well, I just looked up Propay and discovered that they are a TSYS company. That's the company that is stealing from me now.

Do you know if you are on a tiered plan or interchange plus plan? Most likely, you are on a tiered plan where you have 3 different tiers depending upon CC rewards type. Debit cards should process as debit and rates adhere to the Durbin amendment.

What most processors do not volunteer is interchange plus plans. Depending upon your volume, you could qualify for interchange PLUS 0.25% + 0.00 swipe. Since each cardtype is different, you pay the interchange rate associated with each different rewards card plus 0.25%. All inclusive, Auth.net fees, plus interchange plus Processor, a monthly average below 3% is common even with a few Amex cards thrown into the mix.

If you are processing a higher volume, PayPal WPP is more competitive than any merchant processor. You can get it down to their lowest quoted rate (2.2%). As with any other merchant account, PayPal WPP requires quarterly PCI scanning certificate which has only been a matter of scheduling an on-demand scan on the first of every month.

The Wife understood that a lot better than I did. She takes care of the finances. We are a small company and probably wouldn't qualify for any big discounts. We do accept Paypal and pay around 3.5%.

Everyone starts off that way. If you have over $50K credit card sales, interchange plus should be within your grasp. The worst anyone can tell you is "No". The interchange plus accounts are not as lucrative as the tiered plans; thus the reason those plans are not volunteered.

I have not found a processor that doesn't offer them.

Oh no, I started back in the 70's, I wish I could just go home and forget the whole thing; but that's not in the cards.

I'll have her check into what you said.
