Do you know if you are on a tiered plan or interchange plus plan? Most likely, you are on a tiered plan where you have 3 different tiers depending upon CC rewards type. Debit cards should process as debit and rates adhere to the Durbin amendment.
What most processors do not volunteer is interchange plus plans. Depending upon your volume, you could qualify for interchange PLUS 0.25% + 0.00 swipe. Since each cardtype is different, you pay the interchange rate associated with each different rewards card plus 0.25%. All inclusive, Auth.net fees, plus interchange plus Processor, a monthly average below 3% is common even with a few Amex cards thrown into the mix.
If you are processing a higher volume, PayPal WPP is more competitive than any merchant processor. You can get it down to their lowest quoted rate (2.2%). As with any other merchant account, PayPal WPP requires quarterly PCI scanning certificate which has only been a matter of scheduling an on-demand scan on the first of every month.
