Default How to install v139h database into fresh copy 1.50?

    I currently have a store running v1.3.9h

How can I get the database my v1.3.9h installed into a Fresh Copy of 1.50

I have searched but can't find definited answers.

I thought I could just drop the 1.50 database tables and then import the 1.39h database backup i made into the 1.50 database. However when I did that I couldn't view the store's main page it told me there was an error and to try refreshing the page.

So I went back and reinstalled a new copy of the 1.50 and now need to know how to get 1.39h into it. I gather I have to run the zc_install file but how will it know where my 1.3.9h backup is?

I have done upgrades before but this is confusing me and need a quick point in the right direction.

Even though you have created a new install of 1.5.0, you still need to follow the upgrade instructions to get your 1.3.9h data into the new store. It's easy if you just read the instructions and follow along step by step. Basically what you are doing is replacing the new database with the old, then upgrading it using the installer in its upgrade database mode.

DivaVocals and rstevenson thanks to both for your responses. I've actually spent over 8 hours today going through all the posts and following the instructions and I still run into problems. Once I run the installer, tell it to update the database I get a blank page with the error message that says something about "error or the page refresh page again".

My guess is therefore that I must have an addon in the 1.3.9h database that is not compatible. At some point it becomes obvious one needs to move on or go crazy.

So I'll just add the products to the new store manually.

    Anyway thanks for your help.

Remember blank page = error log record generated.. and I'll bet if you checked your cache folder, you'd find an error log which would give you more details about the error.. See if you do have one and post what the error log says..

It's unlikely that an incompatible Zen Cart add-on would stop the upgrade process. An add-o that is not v1.5 compatible;e will simply just not work or work correctly.. So instead of GUESSING it's best that printchic check her error logs instead so the EXACT issue can be evaluated..

I deleted the store already. However, I will reinstall and go through the process again to see what the error log says and post back as it may help someone else.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey there!!

Just so you know, I had the exact same problem upgrading from 1.3.9 to 1.5.0, and it WAS a conflict with one of the mods. I could not gain access to my admin - just a blank page.

This is what I did after I could find NO alternative solution:

    **og=original
    db=database

1.Backed up my 1.3.9 database & made a copy of the sql file from an export of the database I had done via phpmyadmin.
    2. Made note of all the pages I had changed in my og version (1.3.9). Luckily it wasn't hard since as I was designing I had kept a separate file on my machine labeled MyUpgrades - this had all the files I had altered, along with the mods I had installed and my changes to those mods.
    2. Did a fresh install of of 1.5.0.
    3. Made a back up of the brand new database & made a copy of the sql file from an export of the database via phpmyadmin.
    4. Used WinMerge to identify the differences in the databases to make sure any imports into the new db from the old db would not have syntax errors (different tables names etc.)
    5. Found the tables within og db (1.3.9) that contained my data - i.e. zen_products, zen_products_to_categories, etc.
    6. FROM THE 1.3.9 sql export file I had made I found the 'zen_table_name' 'Dumping data for table `zen_products`'. I then copied ALL the 'INSERT INTO.....' from that section ONLY and pasted it into the sql section of phpmyadmin in my NEW DATABASE - this is fine so long as the TABLE NAMES MATCH.
    7. Do this for any sections of your site that have data - you might also have to check within phpmyadmin to make sure that Indexes within each table have been properly copied into the new database as well.

**This is tough to do if you don't have any experience with phpmyadmin, but if you're resilient enough there is plenty of documentation online to teach it to yourself.

    8. Once I had the data from my og db copied into my new db, I then proceeded to update each file I had modified - via ftp from my MyUpgrades folder.
    9. I verified each mod I had installed was 1.5 compatible. Some things you might have to live without for a little bit like Image Handler. Hopefully this will come SOOOON!!!

***DO ONE STEP AT A TIME so it's easier to fix things if they brake.

This was my first upgrade and it was the BEST learning experience EVER. I now know that when there is an upgrade, DO NOT RUSH INTO USING IT until you verify ALL THE MODs you rely upon are compatible.

This is one area that the ZenCart documentation could use improvement. As a new user, you just think 'Cool, let's upgrade - it's safer, better security etc.' . But it's not clear (yes, it says, back up and uninstall your mods) but it doesn't say that your old mods will prohibit your new db from working.

It's cool. The learning process is good for everyone and the zen cart contributors are amazing and answering forum posts and providing their insights/knowledge & tools for free. Love 'Em for that!!!

Thanks Stangirl for you detailed help I had already deleted the database the other day so decided to give it a try on a fresh install today "before reading your reply" but I really appreciate your help.

I was able to get the store working my problem today was just how to get to the admin area. It kept telling me that either I had not completed the install process or that my configure.php files were not properly updated.

Turns out that the new configure.php in the admin folder for 5.0 had a lot of differences to it than the old 1.3.9h one so had to keep tweaking the settings in the 5.0 version until I figure out which lines in the file needed to change. Took me all morning and part of the afternoon to figure it out.

Now on to adding shipping, etc. to the new store.

You say this, and my question to you is do you KNOW WHICH add-on is the issue?? Or are you simply speculating??? Incompatible add-ons may not work, but if you did the upgrade properly it's more than likely that the upgrade process has overwritten any modifications your incompatible add-ons would need to run anyway..

It is VERY unlikely that leftover database tables/columns or code from an incompatible add-on would stop the upgrade from working..

Because if what you say is indeed true, it only makes sense if you can tie this to a SPECIFIC add-on(s) which MIGHT cause errant behavior. It just cannot be a blanket truth to say that ALL add-ons which are incompatible with Zen Cart v1.5 are going to cause upgrade issues. (Because I can certainly name SEVERAL add-ons where I KNOW that this is NOT the case)

Having done a few upgrades with leftover code from INCOMPATIBLE add-ons in place, I have not had any issues upgrading. Unless you know WHICH add-on is the cause of your issue, it is simply a GUESS based on coincidence that this will be an issue for EVERYONE.
