Default Will ZC run on PHP 5.2.10?

    Hi all,

I'm planning to upgrade to Zen Cart 1.5 from 1.3.9h. However, I noticed that my current PHP version is 5.2.10, whereas the minimum for ZC 1.5 is listed as 5.2.14.

The puzzling thing is that I've realised I'm currently running 1.3.9h with no apparent problems on 5.2.10 - but according to the official FAQ, it shouldn't be compatible.

What are the changes between 5.2.10 and 5.2.14 that permit compatibility, and can I assess whether they are likely to affect me?

    Thanks,

    Spinner

As far as ZC goes, if I recall correctly, technically none. It's just PCI Compliance.
PHP 5.2.10 is no longer PCI Compliant, since it has been superceded by a newer more stable/secure PHP version.
Indeed, 5.2.14 may no longer be officially compliant, depending on when you're reading this post.

You'll always want to be using the version that's deemed to be PCI Compliant. Talk with your server administrators about that, since they should be experts on PCI Compliance insomuch as it relates to the server. If they don't know what you're talking about, move to a hosting company who does.

    (and various other ambiguous emoticons)

Are you saying that every upgrade to PHP, whteher or not the upgrade has anything directly to do with security issues, is going to be the required version for PCI compliance? There were five PHP releases from Jan 06/11 to Jan 10/12 alone!

    [edit]
No, never mind. It can't be that crazy. After all, the required (by ZC 1.5.0) PHP version was released in July 2010.

OK, thanks. In that case, how can I bypass this message I'm getting?

"The PHP version you are using (5.2.10) is too old, and this version of Zen Cart® cannot be used."

Never mind, I found out it was the application_top.php file I needed to change.
