Product listing width

I've found a few articles that speak of this, but couldn't find one that was exactly what I was looking for.

If you look at:
http://www.hardwoodcanes.com/walking-canes-c-3.html

I want it wider. I've modified in the stylesheet.css:

.centerColumn {
padding: 0 8px 0 8px;
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
width:100%;
}

I've also tried:

.centerColumn {
width: 875px;
}

The later of the 2 that I've tried works better, but it floats to the right, past the black border, and on to the hardwood background.

I tried adding:
align: center;
but that didn't work either.

Any ideas?

I believe I fixed it by modifying:

#navColumnOne, #navColumnTwo {
display: none;
}

will that hurt anything?
