Default issues with upgrading and the admin changes

    HI,
    I'm upgrading from 1.3.9h to 1.5

I managed to get a test site up and running and have managed to change permissions and rename my admin folder... however I am struggling to access the admin.

So I went into the config file and attempted to change the suggested 3 fields and found that eventually I could access admin if I just filled in the *DIR_FS* field with the relevant admin filename.

however the admin button to open the online catalogue then seems to not work...?

If you installed 1.5.0 in your test site, you didn't need to edit the configure.php file when you changed the admin folder name.

What does 'struggling to access the admin' mean ?

ie the admin section wouldn't come up once I renamed the folder so I went into the config file to try to rectify this.

After I edited the config file I could access admin and change things... but now I cannot access the store from the admin button...

Can you access the store directly (not through the button in admin) ?

Yes, if I put the www.mywebsite.co.uk/store_NEW

Then I can see the store and everything... just wondered if I had broken something significant... as the button from the admin section for seeing the online catalogue doesn't work

It seemed strange also that I only edited the * DIR_FS_* file endings and not * DIR_WS_* in the config file.

Are you talking about changing configure.php files that were built by the v1.5.0 installer? Or did you copy those files from your old site and merely edit the paths in them? The new v1.5.0 version of the files handle paths differently, so making edits is seldom necessary.

I edited the configure.php file in the 1.5 version to include the sql information and then edited the *DIR_FS* entry when I couldn't access the admin.

I did try just renaming the admin folder on the test install but found I couldn't access admin it came up with a 404 error saying
    it didn't exist.

From your last post it sounds as though your real problem is why you were getting a 404 error when trying to access the admin.

Editing the FS entry in the config file is merely adding a layer of extra fog over the top, as in 1.5 this isn't necessary and may cause additional problems.

Are you using a URL rewriting mod, such as Ceon's URI Mapping? If so, you would need to exclude the admin folder name from your rewrites to be able to access it, otherwise it will get processed as though it were a page rather than a section of your site, leading to a 404 error, such as you saw.

I am not using a re-write of the url...??

basically I put a new folder into my website called store_NEW. I copied my existing sql database and made a new one. Then I ran zc_install and made all the files chmod 777 and did the database upgrade.

I added the sql info to the admin and includes config file.

I then renamed admin as requested and removed zc_install.

Then tried to access admin and got the 404 error.

So I guess that the config file is not seeing the admin.

I'm wondering if I need to start again......

deleted and started again... now the admin appears without any alterations :)

however still got the online catalogue button from admin linking to
    mywebsite.co.uk/index.php? and not mywebsite.co.uk/store_NEW/index.php?
