Update product tables only from local install?

I have searched and read this issue in several post but none deal with this particular scenario. I Export & download the most recent sql file from myPHPadmin. Drop all and import the downloaded sql in a local install. Add new products. Export only those new product tables to an sql file. Import(insert?) that sql file into the online myPHP admin.
Does this work?
any "gotchyas" to watch out for?

If you are trying to mass-upload product data, then this is NOT the way to do it.

Depending on your ZC Version, you can use one of the Easy Populate modues, or sign up to Apsona ShopAdmin.
