Default "go to Checkout" button does nothing

New to Zen Cart and have come across an issue that I cannot make sense of... Let's say I have 25 items... When a customer selects one item, clicks the "Add to Cart" the order summary is displayed. If the customer then clicks the "go to Checkout" button, the page does not go to checkout, but rather simply reloads and displays the error message...

Please update your order. The item: "item name" ... Quantity Units errors -
You ordered a total of: 1 Units: 25 Max: 25

However, it the customer order the entire 25 item available, the process works just fine.

The settings for the Units, Minimum and Maximum are used when you want the customer to buy a Product such as minimum of 10, or in units of 2 such as 2, 4, 6, 8, or a Maximum of 12 ...

If you are mixing this up with you have a Product Quantity of 25 and trying to use them to limit how many of the Product can be purchased, such as maximum 25 because you have 25 in stock ... that is not needed, this can be controlled in the Configuration ... Stock ... settings that the customer cannot order more than the quantity in stock when stock tracking is used ...

How are you trying to use these Minimum, Maximum and units?

Perhaps you really need these set to the defaults of:
    Minimum 1
    Unit 1
    Maximum 0 (for unlimited)

Presently, the person entering data into the store is not using the defaults for Unit and Maximum but rather setting values based on how much inventory she has... i.e. if she has 25 items she is setting Maximum at 25 and Units at 25

    Do not do that ...

Leave those settings at their defaults:
    Product Qty Minimum: 1
Product Qty Maximum: 0 = Unlimited, 1 = No Qty Boxes
    Product Qty Units: 1
The settings for how much inventory there is would be the:
    Products Quantity:
So if there are 25 in stock, just set that as ...
    Products Quantity: 25

Okay, I modified the settings on a couple product items per the defaults and that seems to have resolved the problem. Thank you for your input... you have been most helpful.

NOTE: check the settings in the Configuration ... Stock ...

These should be the settings you need:
    Check stock level true
    Subtract stock true
    Allow Checkout false
Then decide if you want the Product to disappear from the Catalog when the stock quantity gets to <= 0 ...
Products status in Catalog when out of stock should be set to
Show Products when out of stock

0= set product status to OFF
    1= leave product status ON
Set to 0, the Product is set to status off, and will not show ...

Set to 1, the Product will show, but show as Sold out ...
