Possible to set unique SKUs for product variants?

I'm new to Zen Cart and tried searching for this function but haven't had any luck. I'm trying to set up products that have unique SKUs for all of the variants, as each product has different sizes, colors and make. I thought the Stock by Attributes add-on might work at first but it doesn't appear to help. I searched these forums and noticed that back in 2010 or so, people were saying Zen Cart did not have this functionality. Is that still the case?

Far as I know, skus (or model numbers) by attribute isn't available for Zencart now.

Thanks. It seems like a number of people have asked about it...is it something that is available with other ecommerce solutions and zen cart just hasn't added it yet? Or am I trying to do something that isn't very common? The only other option I've ever used is Shopify, so I'm not very familiar with e-commerce options.

I don't know, as I haven't used anything but Zencart in some time. I'm pretty sure it will be a part of Zencart 2.0, and no, I don't know when that will be ready.

In the case of model numbers, you can kludge it by adding the model number to the attribute name (tshirtlarge- 12345), but that means you'll have to set up separate attributes for each product.
