I am trying to upgrade from 1.3.6 to 1.5, root directory

i installed zencart on my root, which means directly under public_html, so for the testing, am I supposed to install in public_html1 or public_html/demo? because public_html1 would not be accessible from www and I cannot install it.

If I put the new installation under public_html/demo, how do I move the whole site up the tree after ok to go live?
