1) Is is possible to change the "/download" directory for downloadable products?
2) If so, is it possible to have it exist on another domain?
Thanks for any advice,

1. You're referring to a folder named "download" where the ORIGINAL files are stored for customers to purchase.
To clarify, this is NOT (necessarily) the folder FROM WHICH the customer actually downloads the files (unless your server is very old and very ill-equipped such that it can't serve files in the more contemporary more secure more efficient default way of redirecting to another folder (usually /pub) for download).
To answer the technical question: yes, the physical folder can be relocated to another folder on the same server. Again, this normally should have nothing to do whatsoever with where the customer downloads the file FROM, if the server is actually operating in a secure manner.
2. In ZC v1.5.1 and older there is no built-in facility for storing those files on another server, because it needs physical access to those files to determine size and existence in order to set the proper download headers and also for controlling how many times the customer has downloaded or has access to download, etc. Storing it elsewhere would eliminate all ability to handle security and minimize theft.
Why are you asking? Is this a bandwidth issue? or is it a disk-space/storage issue? Or is it something else?

We've been selling downloadable files for awhile and were running out of server space on our account and when I requested more space from our ISP they inquired about what we were doing and how much our need for space would be growing. Since we produce music and seldom delete files, we see the need for space only growing.
Our ISP then inquired about being able to feed from another server. They had a couple solutions, but wanted to explore that possibility first. Looks like we're opting for Plan B. Thanks again!
